Caisse d’Epargne

Founded in Paris in 1818, Caisse d’Epargne bank is part of the Caisse d’Epargne financial group, which operated 17 branches in France through 2009. 

In July of that year, a merger with Banque Populaire created a new company called Groupe BPCE, which made them the second banking group in France. Both brands continue to operate their separate brands across the country.

Both La Banque Postale and Credit Mutuel shared a monopoly with the Savings Banks on distribution of Livret A. This is a savings account that the French government regulates, and which comes with a fixed 1% annual rate that is tax exempt.

Caisse d’Epargne once had the Livret A as their main resource, but they now also offer a host of life insurance and banking products.
